Renewable fuel cells for Electric Vehicles
Some scientists have successfully made the first renewable fuel cell that can store more energy than origin fuel. Electric vehicle powered potentially more environmentally friendly than gasoline-fueled vehicles because they do not produce greenhouse gas emissions, but the cells used for locomotion can not store as much energy as fossil fuels.
Now, Stuart Licht and his colleagues at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, United States, has created a fuel cell vanadium borides-air with a capacity far greater energy than the batteries of vehicles available today. “These cells have the energy capacity ten times higher than lithium ion batteries and energy density three times higher than the batteries zinc-air,” said Licht, “although all of these battery cells and work in the same way. “A production electric car the GM (General Motors) is called” Volt “, which will be launched in 2010, uses a lithium ion battery that can propel the car should be as far as 40 miles before recharging. To add this mileage, GM added a standard combustion engine to recharge the battery if it is weak. “Renewable fuel cells that we made to open the possibility of making electric-powered vehicles with unlimited mileage, no separate combustion engines, and without having to frequently recharge the battery,” said Licht. Borides of vanadium fuel cells require only air-air and fresh fuel to complete the recharging process. By using this system, a driver only stopped at refueling to get fresh fuel and continue the journey back to the vanadium borides-air cells as an energy source of vehicles.
Peter Bruce, an expert in the field of new materials for energy storage devices in St Andrews University, UK, commented: “Finding ways to save more energy than that may be stored on the tools that exist now is an important challenge and required imaginative solutions. Replacing the zinc in zinc-air battery with a vanadium anode borides is a very interesting experiment. However, this poses several challenges for practical devices, such as recharging batteries, and many more scientific questions that need to be answered. “Licht acknowledges that a lot remains to be done before the cells This fuel can be commercialized. “This study is the first study to show a very high capacity of these cells. Details of machines, systems optimization and development of the production scale should be developed,” he said.
When We fill the Fuel for Our Vehicle?
I do not know how exactly you pay when you fill petrol … but here, in Durban, the price of fuel is also expensive. I have been working in the field of fuel / petrol for 31 years, so I can give you some ways to make money you become more valuable to each liter of fuel that you buy.
At the Marian Hill Pipeline where I work in Durban, within 24 hours we infuse / deliver approximately 4 million liters. One day of diesel, the next day jet fuel and petrol, LRP and Unleaded. We’re here to have as many as 34 storage tanks with a capacity of 16.8 million liters entirely. BUY FUEL OR FILL YOUR CAR OR MOTOR WITH FUEL STILL EARLY DAYS AT THE TIME WHEN THE SOIL TEMPERATURE IS STILL COLD: Remember that all petrol stations have underground storage tanks. The colder the ground the more dense / viscous fuel. If the temperature began to heat / warm, then the fuel will expand. So if you buy fuel in the afternoon or evening …. actual fuel tank is filled into the vehicle you are clearly less than the number of liters you purchase.
In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products have an important role. Increase of one degree is very influential in this business. But petrol stations do not provide indemnity / compensation due to temperature.
Straw As Alternative Fuel
During this time, so only the waste straw after the rice so the rice is separated for processing purposes. Even if there is a harness, straw is used for cleaning materials or handicrafts as well. Even so, its amount was not much and it finally just burned or so animal feed ingredients.
Now, with further research, apparently the straw can also be used as an alternative fuel is environmentally friendly. Amazingly, not only provide added value, utilization of straw also prevents release of carbon into the atmosphere when burned. Cycles of carbon into the atmosphere can be extended by turning it into biofuel.
This breakthrough had been ogled ethanol producer in China. Moreover, as one of the largest countries, each year about 230 million tons of straw thrown away. Therefore, there already exist three straw processing facilities have been built to date.
Even so, to process the straw is not easy. Stem-rich straw cellulose was not easy to unravel bacteria commonly used in the manufacturing process biomass. To that end, the researchers used an alkali solution of sodium hydroxide to soften it before the fermentation process. “All done at room temperature without additional energy, and need little water, so that the overall process is simple, fast, cost effective, and environmentally friendly,” said Xiujin Li from Beijing University of Chemical Technology.
This method is also used to produce ethanol in more than 30 countries. However, the material is processed sugar cane, corn, and soybeans are the main food source of human, not a waste material. While in China, straw is processed to produce biogas. Use of the solution has been shown to increase the production of methane gas mixture and carbon dioxide by 65 percent. Residues or its processed waste as compost is also beneficial. “In this way, straw really fully recycled,” added Li Xiujin.
